Ours is Vila Nova da Baronia, a historic Alentejo village in southern Portugal, with its own agricultural traditions and a new chapter in boutique hospitality.
Walnutz started with a simple idea: walnuts should come with a story you can trace. These are Chandler walnuts grown in our own grove, where we choose not to use chemical treatments on the trees.
We are a small-scale grower, not an anonymous supermarket brand. When you buy from us, you know the place, the trees and the people behind your food.

Our walnuts grow just outside Vila Nova da Baronia, in the municipality of Alvito, in Portugal's Alentejo region. The village's documented origins reach back to 1257, and it received its first royal charter in 1280. Today, whitewashed houses, old churches and agricultural land still give it a distinct sense of place.
Alongside that heritage, there is renewed interest in welcoming visitors. The Green House Alentejo, a boutique hotel in the heart of the village, opened with six suites. It has announced a significant expansion, with additional rooms, a restaurant, spa, pool and wellbeing spaces, supported by Portugal 2030 funding.
To us, Vila Nova da Baronia is more than an address on a package. It is the landscape, community and farming tradition behind Walnutz.

A careful, practical process that keeps the walnuts simple, traceable and ready for sale.
Once the walnuts are ready, we begin by picking them during harvest. The green outer husk is then removed by hand, followed by washing the walnuts to clean them before drying.
After washing, the walnuts are dried in our drying machine to reduce moisture and help them store properly. Once dry, they are calibrated by size. The walnuts we sell here are sorted into a commercial size range of approximately 28 mm to 36 mm.
The walnuts are collected from the grove when ready.
We manually remove the outer green shell after picking.
The walnuts are washed, then dried in the machine shown here.
After drying, they are sorted into sizes between 28 and 36.
